Forrest Boughner started Alpine Running Guides as a way to share his passion for trail running in the mountains. He grew up building tree forts at the base of a 12,000′ mountain and has been enthralled by outdoor challenges since then. Since hiking the Continental Divide Trail and moving to Montana, Forrest has dedicated most of his time to exploring the trails of Montana. He is currently working on a project to summit the highest point in each of the 64 mountain ranges in Montana. The Montana Mountain Project has helped Forrest increase his trail knowledge base throughout Montana. When not on the trail he spends his time studying maps looking for the next great adventure. A good day for Forrest is spent above treeline followed by a generous helping of ice cream. Forrest also has 10 years of coaching experience having worked with all age groups, from elementary school kids to elderly adults. Forrest leads the Run Wild Missoula Advanced Trail Running Class and is a WFR certified guide.
Sara Boughner was born and raised in Flagstaff, Arizona, and has always felt at home in the wilderness. After competing in track and field in high school and college, she discovered a love for the trails and started running longer distances. Her background as a river guide, and time spent navigating the Continental Divide Trail with Forrest fostered a love for spending extended periods of time outside. Since moving to Missoula in 2014, she has competed in several ultra trail races and assisted with teaching trail running classes. Sara will graduate with her Doctor of Physical Therapy from the University of Montana in 2019, and is excited to share her passion for the trails of Montana with others.
For Amy Chapman, running is more than just a form of exercise. It’s her moving meditation. Amy grew up in the rain forests of Portland, OR. Every day, as early as middle school student, she churned up mud, splashed through puddles, raced among the ferns. Somewhere along the way, running became her everyday chance to escape from the pressures of life, a chance to be free and wild and home in nature. After racing her way through high school and college, Amy traveled the world, from Japan to Maui to Telluride. Races in each place pushed Amy to farther distances, greater elevations, more technical terrain. In Telluride, Amy worked as a field instructor for Telluride Academy, leading two-week long adventures in the wilderness that included rock climbing, kayaking, and backpacking. When Amy moved to Montana in 2012 for a ski guiding job in Bozeman, she arrived a seasoned mountain runner passionate about sharing her love of wilderness adventures with others in an accessible, fun, and safe way. When she moved to Missoula and its tight community of crazy runners, Amy knew she had found her tribe.
Amy works as a massage therapist specializing in therapeutic and sports massage. From her downtown office with mountain views, Amy treats a variety of clients and conditions, from professional runners training for ultras to weekend warriors recovering from hip replacements. She believes in the power of regular self care to prevent injury, enhance performance, and speed recovery. She is a Certified Neuromuscular Therapist with extensive training in myofascial release, sports massage and Thai massage. She is also a Certified Personal Trainer, which she uses in conjunction with her massage skills to help each person heal more quickly and ultimately reach their full potential as an athlete. On her time off, Amy loves nothing more than grinding up some unexplored mountain and flying down the other side. She looks forward to learning exactly what your ideal running trip looks like, and bringing that dream into reality!
