Pending Permit Approval!

The Continental Divide Trail bisects the country from Mexico to Canada via a 3,200 mile route that is a mix of single track trail, ranch roads, two-track, and cross-country travel marked by cairns. It passes through New Mexico, Colorado, Wyoming, a slice of Idaho, and Montana. While we are not asking you to trail run the entire 3,200 miles, we are offering a trip along a gorgeous 12 mile section of single track trail in central Montana!

The entire section of trail that the Alpine Running Guides Continental Divide trip covers is on the actual divide. We will begin in the shade of a forested pass and climb up away from the road heading North. The first half the the tour remains in the trees with glimpses of far off mountains and secluded meadows. During the second half of the run the trail breaks out of the trees onto an incredible ridge that screams “this is the Divide!” From here we will have views into the Scapegoat Wilderness, East to the Missouri River, and West along the path of Lewis and Clark.

We rate the Continental Divide trail trip as a moderate difficulty run. Yes, there is a lot of climbing. But it tends to not be consistently steep and the trail is typically in great condition. Distance-wise it falls in the middle of our trips. We do recommend that you are capable of running 15 miles comfortably before joining Alpine Running Guides for this tour. Keep in mind that all of our tours are casual and laid-back when it comes to pacing. We like to take our time! Please contact us to discuss if this trip is a good fit for you!
